Text characters in Fireworks appear with ascenders or descenders cut off

Issue
When a user types in text that uses a certain font—typically music or script fonts—the characters appear with their ascenders or descenders cut off in Fireworks.

Reason
If the text has features that extend beyond the font's defined em square, those features that fall outside the em square will not be rendered in Fireworks. Em square is a property among fonts which defines the outer limits of any character's total width and height. Fireworks considers the font's em square as a delimiter when rendering the characters within the font.

Workaround
Although characters within these fonts will be truncated, the same characters can be converted to paths, and Fireworks will display the paths of the characters properly. As a path, the character does not include any em square information, so Fireworks does not delimit the character.

Perform these steps to enable your characters to appear correctly and maintain the editable text:
The steps below show you how to clone the text and convert it to paths, then hide the original text. Doing this ensures the exported file will have the graphics for the text while maintaining the editable text in the original PNG file.

1 Select the Pointer tool and click on the text object to select it. Choose Edit > Clone to create a clone of the original text object.
  Clone the Text
Note: When you clone an object, the clone is stacked precisely in front of the original and becomes the selected object. If the Layers panel isn't visible, choose Window > Layers. Use this panel to see in detail the layer for the original and for the cloned text.
2 Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) on the cloned text object and choose Convert to Paths from the contextual menu.
  Convert to Paths
3 Select the original text object in the Layers panel and click the Eye icon to the left of the thumbnail to hide the object. The eye icon indicates that the object is visible, and the absence of the eye icon indicates that the object is hidden. As mentioned earlier, you can keep the hidden text as your original copy in case you need it for future editing.
